The Myotonic breed, more commonly known as fainting or stiff-legged goats, are a wonderfully unique breed of goat. These goats are rather distinctive from their kin due to a muscle condition called myotonia congenita; which causes bouts of muscle tensing. This results in the 'fainting' act these goats are known for, but it only lasts for a few seconds. Along with this characteristic, these goats are extremely muscular compared to other breeds and generally used for meat production. Their easy-going temperament and smaller stature makes them wonderful pets. And because of their stiffening condition, they are less likely to try and escape!
For historical and preservation purposes, the Myotonic Goat Registry (MGR) records pedigree information for those registered as breeders. More information on MGR can be found on their website at: http://www.myotonicgoatregistry.net
